Green Island, Hawai'i, Saturday afternoon
The call from their meth dealing mark came in on Saturday, so Steve and Danny didn't have to fly with all of their baggage crashing around them.
They'd taken a portal back to Honolulu and then the Cessna they'd commandeered over to Turtle Island to meet Dae Won, who'd then packed the cargo area full of meth.
Steve reminded himself not to kill this guy immediately because they needed his contact on O'ahu, too.
He'd slid into the pilot seat, put on his sunglasses, and taken himself, Danny, and Dae Won into the sky, heading back for O'ahu.
The small talk was excruciating for the first part of their hour-long flight, even with their covers as people who didn't care about drug shipments, and Steve was almost excited to see another aircraft coming up behind them. Maybe it'd be the Coast Guard. He didn't care who got the credit for the bust, as long as the drugs stopped coming in.
"You expecting company?" he asked Dae Won idly.

"Take her down in case we need to dump," Dae Won said, showing off how pragmatic he was.

He glanced to the window in time to see the helicopter come up alongside and begin to fire an automatic weapon out the door of the helicopter, blasting holes starting at the nose of the plane. He desperately juked the wheel, trying to protect Danny's side of the plane from the bullets, then went still as multiple bullets sliced into his body.

He was already rushing over to check on Steve as the plan jerked and rocked as the bullets damaged both the engine and pilot.

Then he was reaching around Steve to grab the... control? Joystick? Whatever the hell it was. And then got on the radio. "Mayday! Mayday. I'm in a Cessna aircraft en route to Oahu. And I have a serious, serious problem. Repeat: Mayday! Mayday! Our pilot has been shot. Request immediate assistance."

In the pilot chair, Steve was unresponsible.

"Hey, put down the gun!" Danny snapped, pulling his own on him.

"Mayday request, do you copy? Please switch to channel 17 for immediate assist," came crackling over the radio.

Steve cracked his eyes open to look at Danny.

"If I don't answer it, we're gonna die, all of us," he snapped. "So, either we shoot each other or this plane goes down. You understand that? Does that make sense to you?"
Rock and a hard place situation here!

He'd been in special ops long enough to triage, and he knew what he was feeling--this floating, disconnected feeling numbing the screaming pain--it wasn't good. He was going to die. He was going to die on this stupid Cessna while a drug dealer screamed at his partner. "D--" he tried. Talking was almost impossible.

"You wanna shoot me and kill us all? Fine. Shoot me," he snapped, grabbing the radio again. "Switching to channel 17. You're gonna be alright, Steve."
Or Danny would have a real meltdown.

Don't make him say it again.
"Again, this is Detective Danny Williams. I am in a Cessna aircraft. I'm headed your way. Our pilot, my--colleague--" Nailed it. "--has been shot. He's got multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen. I need EMT standing by right when we get this thing on the ground, which I have no clue, zero clue how to do. Over."

In his seat, Steve's head had lolled against the headrest in a boneless, deeply disturbing way.
